Do you want me to have Jon randomly say a day after the event, "you know....I'm glad we didn't go to the mall like i said we should, and all this ended up happening, because we changed our minds off camera, because your a really hot cheerleader now and we can make out, yum yum."

it's not important for that to be stated. and you keep on stating it. what's important is how the characters are acting, what they are thinking, why they do the things they do, and how they change.

In my mind, they changed their minds about not going off camera and it's not a big deal, in fact right now there are a couple things going on off camera, Sandy is talking to a guy and getting rejected, we are not going to see that full conversation, but it's there and it will be referred to. I trust the reader to imply that while they did not see the phone conversation actually happen, that there was one and it did happen and then be more concerned with how Sandy is reacting to it. I very much hope you don't feel the need to point out that we never actually heard the guy reject her, and post that to every part of the story, that might take the reader out of the experience.
