Like An Animal, Part One

She was cold, she thought to herself. Despite the coat of fur that enveloped her body, the young wolf couldn't avoid the chill of fear that coursed through her. She had been alone ever since the moon appeared in the distance, and now it had reached the highest point in the sky. She could not find her parents or the rest of her pack, and she knew she had to keep walking around the forest if she wanted to find them.
There! Between those trees, she saw two yellow spots. Those were the eyes of a fellow wolf. But that was all she saw. She inched closer to have a better look. As she walked over, the creature came closer to her. In the moonlight she saw the wolf's figure. But it was not like any wolf she ever saw in her short existence. It stood on two limbs, not four, and towered over her to show off his strength. The young wolf cowered in fear as the giant animal leaned over with an evil look in his eyes.
Quickly, she darted in the other direction with the hope of escaping the hungry wolf's grasp. But the creature was not far behind and eventually overtook her in speed. With one hand the wolf grabbed her by her tail. She yelped both in pain and in fear as she was held by the tail. She watched the wolf's big, gaping jaws open, revealing sharp canines ready to tear at her flesh.
The giant wolf pierced the skin of the female wolf's small body. Blood gushed out of her as she yelped again. She closed her eyes, waiting for the ordeal to be over.
The next thing she knew, she was laying on the ground, soaked in her blood. She opened her eyes and found it was morning. But that was all the wolf could make out of it. She could not recognize the shapes and colors in front of her, only that they might be trees or they might be rocks. Still weakened from her encounter with the giant wolf, she closed her eyes again.

"No!" Teyna exclaimed.
"But we are old enough," Brynn replied, "We could probably be leading the pack by now!"
"I won't do it," Teyna said as she walked away.
Determined, Brynn followed, "Come on Teyna! Mating season will be coming soon, and almost everyone in the pack has mates except us! You and I are a perfect match."
Teyna looked behind her, "But we're just friends, Brynn! I don't like you in that way. At least not yet."
Brynn walked alongside of Teyna, "We've known each other since we were little wolflings. How else can we think of each other unless we try?"
"Brynn..."
"Teyna, you and I can be such good mates. At least think about it."
Teyna started to walk away, "I will not. I will not risk the friendship you and I share, Brynn. It's just the way things are."
Even more desperate, Brynn said, "It's all because of your time with them, isn't it?"
Teyna stopped, "What did you just say?"
"Oh, please, Teyna, no one else in the pack thinks like them except you. I've watched you become just like them. What do they teach you anyways?"
That did it. Of all things, Brynn had to bring it up. Teyna gathered up her anger and showed it in her eyes as she approached Brynn, "Do you think I enjoy walking among them? Do you think I like it? Do you think it doesn't make me mad when I turn into...THEM!? Answer me!"
Teyna swung her paw at Brynn. Brynn ducked and covered his head with his paws.
"Sorry," he muttered.
"What was that?" she demanded.
"I said I'm sorry!"
"That's what I thought," Teyna lowered her paw and walked away.

Oh, bother, she thought. For the fourth time in two cycles, Brynn had gotten under her fur again, bringing up mating season and how they could be companions. When he first mentioned mating with her, the thought hadn't come to mind for Teyna. Still, she had always known him to be a playful character who had charmed her on more than one occasion. Could it be that all the time Brynn had been in love with her? And could she possibly be in love with him?
She pushed the thought aside as she approached the two big trees. This is where it...happened. Where it all started. Seemed fitting that she returned here every time. Plus it was a short distance to the edge of the forest. Teyna looked up and saw the last bits of daylight fading as the tip of the moon started to appear in the horizon. She sat in front of the two trees and lowered her head onto the ground, waiting for yet another change to happen.
Suddenly, a voice. "Teyna?" It was Brynn! He appeared to Teyna from among a set of trees opposite Teyna.
She picked her head up, "Brynn! What're you doing here?"
"I figured it's that time of the cycle. I wanted to apologize before...you know."
"Well, you don't have to say it, you said it already."
"Yeah, well, just thought you might still be angry at me."
"Oh, Brynn," Teyna approached him, "It's not exactly an easy thing to talk about, mating season. I do like you, Brynn. You're very sweet and you're fun to be around. Not to mention you're the only one who understands what I go through."
Brynn smiled.
"If it makes you happy, I'll think about it, OK?"
"You mean it?"
"Yeah," Teyna smiled back, "Now get out of here, moon's coming up quick." And it was. Almost the entire moon now shone in the sky.
Brynn made a sad face, "Aw, can't I watch?"
"I don't know, Brynn," she said. There was a bit of agitation in her voice as her body heated up from the presence of the full moon.
"I won't do anything. Promise."
Her own scent was changing, she could sense it. "Alright," she said, quickly losing her ability to communicate with Brynn, "It's starting..."
Teyna quickly backed away as the moon burned at her skin. She shut her eyes and rolled around as the pain increased. The first thing Brynn noticed as he dropped his jaw was that Teyna's snout was getting shorter. She ended up with the back of her head to the ground and her paws pointing up. All over her body, Teyna's thick, grey fur was getting shorter, except for the fur on her head, which developed a brown tint and grew even longer. Teyna opened her mouth to let out a growl of pain, but instead out came a soft moan. Brynn noticed that Teyna's sharp canines were gone, and were replaced by dull, white teeth. As she gripped her stomach, she touched not fur but delicate pink flesh. She looked at the hands that held her stomach and saw that her paws were growing longer as her palms became smooth. Her legs reshaped themselves as they fell flat to the ground.
The change was slow but it neared completion as Teyna's wet, black nose turned the same color as the rest of her bare skin. She opened her eyes and Brynn found that the yellow glow of her eyes were gone, now replaced by a blue tint surrounded by white. The last of the change completed as her ears shifted to the sides of her head.
As her transformation stopped, a weakened Teyna lay on the cool grass with her eyes closed. Brynn rushed to her side hoping that she was alright. Slowly, Teyna opened her eyes again and was greeted with the image of Brynn's face. She smiled at Brynn as he examined her new form. Brynn seldom caught the chance to see Teyna in human form, and was completely fascinated by her transformation. He ran his snout down Teyna's chest and picked up her new scent by sniffing her pubic hair. She was human, alright.
"Brynn!" Teyna laughed at him as she sat up, "You're such a...!" She stopped in mid-sentence to take her hand and stroke the fur on the back of Brynn's head. Brynn's tongue popped out as he enjoyed the sensation.
Teyna crawled over to the patch of leaves between the two trees. She reached in to find the bag hidden at the bottom of the leaves. Inside were her clothes. A simple T-shirt and jeans, the humans called it, but it was just enough to pass as one of them. Quickly she put them on after a breeze swept by her exposed breasts. Teyna reached into the side pocket of her bag and inside she found her comb. Brynn watched Teyna take the comb and brush her tangled hair. And as quickly as the initial transformation, the girl who was once a wolf now could easily blend in with the rest of the humans.
Teyna was unable to understand what Brynn could be saying, but she said to him, "Now, I'm going into the town. It's only going to be for the night."
Brynn approached her, his tail wagging in the air and his tongue still out of his mouth. "Well, I can't stay here!" she said as she put her hands on his furred face. He was warm. She looked down; his organ was fully extended out of his canine sheath.
Teyna grinned, "Now I KNOW how much you want to mate with me!"
She stood up and hid the bag away in the leaves again. Looking at Brynn, she said, "Don't wait up for me."
