Things shimmered around them. Karyn looked away from the stone at the moment she made the wish -- right at a mountain. The mountain stayed in exactly the same position, and even the sun did -- they must have been in the same part of the year. But the roads had disappeared. There were more trees up on the mountain -- but the grassy fields visible farther down were nearly untouched. The only sign of human habitation visible was a crude path through the field. "Where are all the castles?" asked Jon. "We only travelled through time, Jon. We're still in America. Well, what will be America, anyway." "So, we have to go to Europe, then?" "Yeah. There's no way that we can just travel there. There aren't any boats that go back and forth on the Atlantic, since no one in Europe knows about this continent yet. We'll have to use the stone. Unless you want to go to a different time, instead." Karyn gave the stone to Jon and he decided what to do. "I wish ..." transportation | |
