I should just shut up before I wish you had twins or something.” “Jane.” Karyn said, covering Jane’s hand with hers. “Let’s set the rock down before you say something even worse.” Jane looked at the woman who was her best friend since they had met in grade school, who was the mother of twins, and who a short time ago had been a high school student. Before she said anything else, Jane did set the rock down. “I am so sorry Karyn.” Jane said. “I don’t mind.” Karyn said. “I got to skip the last couple years of high school.” “Still I feel so bad about all of this.” “Well. We can’t undo wishes, but we can make things a bit better.” “What do you mean?” “Well first,” Karyn said picking up the wishing rock. “I wish that our kids grow up being best friends.” “That is a good wish.” Jane said. “I have one.” Karyn paused for a moment and Jane added, “Trust me. I learn from my mistakes.” Since Jane was her best friend, Karyn did trust her so she gave Jane the rock. “I wish,” Jane said, “that Karyn and I have good jobs that allow us to spend lots of time with our family and that we have enough income to allow us to live comfortably without being so rich as to attract attention.
