Sarah McMillan had always been envious of the white girls in her almost all-white town. Now she had become one of them. She smiled at her new self in the mirror. She had no idea that she had turned into an older version of her original incarnation, albeit without the traits that had marked her as Janet's daughter. She turned around to see a family portrait hanging on the wall. Her mother - a phrase she'd never associate with Janet the maid - was now just as blonde and blue-eyed as she was while still being recognizable. Had everyone on her mother's side been bleached? How much of her family tree could be affected by the magic stone?
