"Why are you doing this to me? Why are you controlling my life?" Jon asked. "Because I can. I am the Author." "Show yourself." "I can't." "I thought you could do anything?" "I can. But I can't show myself. It's complicated." Jon grasped the stone. "What are you doing?" the Author asked. There was fear in his voice. Not a lot, just a little. "I wish I would know why the Author of my life can't appear to me." And suddenly Jon knew. It was because the Author wasn't just one person. It was several different people. Different genders, different ages, different backgrounds. They all combined to create ... the Author. And they were just people. Not gods. After Jon learned the truth, the house stopped shaking. The Author had run away. But Jon wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. | |
