Actually, the rock didn't just flash. It glowed. It became white-hot, and Jon had to open his hand and drop the ember.

As it fell, it broke apart, and ended up as a small pile of gray ash on the carpet of Jon's bedroom.

"Oh, shit, oh, shit," said Zoe, kneeling down to more closely examine the remnants. "Jon, I'm sorry, I didn't -- I didn't realize that would overload it."

Jon felt sick to his stomach. He'd held absolute power in his hand, and all he'd done with it was to give himself a ridiculously limited mental ability. He hadn't even gotten much of a chance to use that ability, since Zoe had claimed she didn't want the bigger breasts. He thought she'd looked good, but then, he was a 17-year-old male. He felt awful about the whole thing.

Zoe stood back up and said, "I'm gonna go get my spell books and see if there's anything I can do." Jon looked at Zoe and immediately noticed something was different.
