"We should take Karyn along," I suggested.

"I'm not sure that's the best idea," my grandfather said.

"Why not? She already knows about the stone."

"It's best if it's just you and me."

"You don't trust her?" I asked.

"I didn't say that."

"Well, I trust her. And I think we could use the help."

"Is that the only reason you want her to come along?" he asked me.

"What do you mean?"

"Jon, I know how you feel about her. She's more than just a friend to you."

"Grandpa," I whined.

"What? It's the truth."

"So what if I really like her? I still think she'd be an asset to us."
