"Hey, bitch!" a man yelled at Charlie. He turned around and saw the man charging towards him.

"What ..." Charlie didn't get to finish his sentence, because the man slapped him across the face.

"You skim on me again?" He pulled Charlie's hair. "You don't never skim on me, bitch."

"Let go."

"I let go when I wanna let go," the man said. Then he yanked down on Charlie's hair and let go, causing Charlie to stumble backwards. Ever since the violet sky, Renee had been wearing 4-inch heels. They made it difficult for him to balance himself. "Now where's my money?!"

"I ..."

The man grabbed Renee's purse and sifted through it. When he found a wad of bills, he pocketed it. "I think that should cover it." He looked straight at Charlie. "If you pull somethin' like this again, you're dead, bitch."

Then the man walked away.

Already, Charlie didn't want this life. And knowing that Renee was supposed to be a hooker made him want it even less.

Charlie Goes to the Library, But Gets Turned Away
