He turned to Katie, "I know Becca can't fix this herself, but she might know something about it. If I call her over, can she and I pretend to be friends visiting you if mom and dad get curious?" Katie, not knowing what else she could do, easily acquiesced. They walked over to Katie's room, just in case their mom looked in; the door to Jim's room was left open. That left it for Jim to call Rebecca. He called, saying "Hi, sweetie," when she answered. He could hear the smile in her voice as she said, "Hi, ..." Jim | |
