"Sorry about my brother and his geeky friends," she told Karyn. Karyn shrugged. "We can ditch them at the mall," she suggested. They made another stop, and this time it was Athena who entered the car. She was also dressed more normally...so much so he didn't recognize her. He kept mostly quiet during the rest of the ride as the two girls talked enthusiastically about gaming, a subject he normally enjoyed. It seemed this Athena, instead of the occult, was obsessed with fantasy and fantasy games. The conversation was more about the way magic worked in one of the RPGs they seemed to be a part of. Jon didn't notice when they arrived at the mall. His wish that he didn't have to take Zoe and her friends to the mall had made her friends his. Athena and Zelda were the ones Zoe usually took to the mall. Her older friends could drive their themselves, and might be unchanged. And Karyn ended up as Zoe's friend.
