But throughout my investigation of the NTE Project, I had become increasingly paranoid. It was, in fact, a US government-funded project. Top top secret, that sort of thing. Even after all this time, I was sure that some certain people wouldn't want me snooping around. But I knew how to take care of myself. And a little paranoia was good to keep me on my feet. Suddenly, I heard the sound of a shutting door echo throughout the building. I squinted into the darkness and saw a figure approach me. "Mr. Willis?" a boy asked. That was definitely him. I recognized his voice. "Here," I said. The boy walked towards me, into the dim light. He looked like any other 12-year old. No one could possibly guess that inside that head was the mind of 45-year old physicist. Although, ever since the Shift, maybe that wasn't true. I stuck out my hand, but the boy hesitated. Maybe he was uncertain as to what my intentions were. Like I said before, there were a lot people who would have loved to get their hands on the scientists who ruined their lives. But I wasn't one of those people. After a moment, he shook my hand and smiled weakly. "Now," I said. "Tell me about the NTE Project." The NTE Project | |
