After they took just five steps into the house, the floor fell away beneath them and they landed somewhere in the basement. Having the wind knocked out of her, Julie was a bit disoriented, but she was still aware enough to see that the floor above them didn't fall away at all. It was a trapdoor. And now that she was seeing things more clearly, she realized that both she and her boyfriend had fallen into a metal cage. Was this some sort of trap for trespassers?

She stood up (as much as she could) and tried to push the top of the cage open, but it wouldn't budge. It was just too heavy.

She looked down and saw Kevin. The sudden fall must have knocked him out. She shook him, trying to wake him up.

And that's when the trapdoor above them closed, immersing them in darkness.
