"You go up the stairs, down the hall. It's Room 222." She stumbled along, spotting students playing with their phones as they hung out in the hall. It was so unlike when she was in...she pinched herself. Where were all these strange thoughts coming from? The Assistant Principal ushered her in. "I'm glad you could see me about your daughter," he said. "Stepdaughter, actually," Erika said, automatically. She paused. She had a stepmother, whom she hated...the golddigger who'd married her father. But...if she was now someone's stepmother, which made NO sense, who was her daughter...umm...stepdaughter? | |
