Jay and Wallace began to rush towards the machine, when suddenly it went off at full blast. Instead of a directed beam, though, it was a glowing field that enveloped all three of them ... Jay, Wallace, and Jon.

And when the light was gone, all three of them were in a daze. They knew that something was different, because they were affected by the machine, but they just didn't know what.
