"I think we have all the bases covered," Karyn said with satisfaction.

"Good," Jon said. Then, soberly, he added, "Look, maybe we ought to think about it before using this rock any more. I almost got my butt kicked."

"I think you're right," Karyn nodded. "Just take it home and put it away - we'll talk more about it later."

Jon and Karyn discussed it some more at school the next day, and decided to put off any experimentation with the rock for a while - it was just too powerful and dangerous (although they did get a kick out of seeing the newly expanded cheerleading squad).

There was, however, one aspect of the rock's power that they had overlooked. The distance limitation.

Gary Meadows had been out of town on business. He arrived back at his house that day to find his wife, Lorraine, already back.

"Hey, Lo! Anything happen since night before last?"

She smiled and shook her head. "No, not really."

"How's our boy doing? Ready for the game this weekend?"

"Oh Gary, I wish you'd stop pushing Wes to play ball - he's only 8 years old!"

Gary sighed. "I know. I'm talking about our other son."

Lorraine looked back at him quizzically. "What are you talking about?"
