Some More Story Considerations.Episode submitted by Rob on Fri Sep 29 20:31:04 2000 Return to Parent Episode I agree with pretty much everything WTBPA said. I myself like to add to story arches with a bit of plot and some internal continuity, though it can be a bit difficult keeping things straight some times with so many branches. I’ve been adding mostly to the episodes that WTBPA writes because, for one thing, he keeps adding to MINE. And we seem to have similar writing styles and tastes, as in we like something of a plot, and long episodes. And we both like to add little potential hooks it seems. For instance, in the “Home on the Range” thread, there’s several spots where Jon can decide to stay with Karyn, or go wander the house on his own. There’s plenty of potential for interesting situations there as well. Or in “The Cat Maid Her Do It” I left the possibility that Karyn might decide to get even with Jon by making HIM wear something similar, obviously in a similar form. That could easily enough turn into a TG threat (like Kylene_Devlin tried to do in “Pet No More.” It’s just that that was a bit shorter and more abrupt an episode than I usually like. But perhaps I’ll add to it later, if I have time.) Also, I had Jonni’s mother remind her to take her pills a few times, without ever mentioning what they are. Exactly what are they? Transformation pills? Allergy medicine? Birth control pills? They could be any or all of the above, depending on who adds to the episode and what direction they want to take. As for the predominance of feline episodes, well, I do happen to like that sort of transformation, but I’m not that preferential. The horse one was fun as well. If someone wrote a nice long bit continuing that area, I’d probably add to it. Or they could add at the initial episodes with all the changes and the horse and leopard threads started from. Or at “The Grass is Greener.” Or any other of a dozen places. If you don’t like all the feline episodes, feel free to add one or two with canines, or wolves, or bears, or whatever else you want. Heck, don’t just feel free to do it, go head and do it! If it’s long and interesting and we can think of a continuation, we’ll add to it! I feel kind of bad that WTBPA and I mostly seem to be just adding to each others posts, and everyone’s else’s mostly sit there. We’re not trying to ignore any one else work or anything really. I guess it’s just that our writing styles compliment each others relatively well. Actually, there are a few episodes besides WTBPA’s that look promising. Katra’s “Weed Graveyard far far away” thread. That one seems to hae potential. I just can’t seem to think of anything interesting to add to it myself. And there are some of WTBPA’s that I can’t think of any additions to either. Like the “Secret Identity” episode, with Anne becoming a costumed superhero. (Sorry WTBPA, superhero things aren’t my strong suit) But hopefully someone else will come along with a good idea and write an interesting episode to continue it, and maybe I’ll be able to come up with something then. The trick is to just get things going in some general, interesting direction. I also agree with WTBPA’s methods of getting the stone out of Jon and Karyn’s hands after they’ve made a few interesting wishes. Then it gives you lots of time to examine the results of those wishes, without shifting through changes blindingly fast with no depth. Although personally I tend to lean more towards literal wish fufillment, without the stone taking care of all the little details. That the characters have to make more wishes to get everything just right, and risk more accidents… I also thought my “A New Safety Measure” had a bit of potential (although I should have made it longer than an hour. . More like a day) because it only SEEMS to take away the risks of using the stone. Jon and Karyn aren’t stupid characters, so while they sometimes make mistakes, they don’t seem too prone to making totally frivolous wishes. But if the wishes are normally limited to a day, they might try things they wouldn’t normally. And thus get themselves into trouble or interesting situations, if only for 24 hours. And if they try to use more wishes to fix things, and the previous wish wears off, suddenly changing the effects of the newer one.. Anyway, I guess that’s enough pointless rambling for the moment. I hope Zach doesn’t mind us writing episodes of this sort. I feel kind of bad killing space with non-story related episodes. It would be nice if there was someplace else we could discuss these things. (Hint, hint, without being obnoxious or pushy.. I hope!) :) | |
