Jon felt himself look away for a second, and heard a dissipating growling. He turned his attention back to the girls.

Karyn was slowly standing, freeing bits of electronics from her fur. She held a paw to the back of her head, looking visibly shaken. Her lupine eyes were beginning to water.

Zoë knelt on the floor, shaking and clutching her wound. She shuddered beneath the large gap in the wall, wide enough to soak her entire body in moonlight. She curled her hand and breathed like her life depended on it.

Karyn stood. “Zoë…God, what have I done?”

“You bit her, Karyn.” Jon gulped. “Can you help her?”

The she-wolf shrugged, tears matting the fur on her face. “I don’t know how.”

Jon nodded, and grasped the stone again. He thought quickly, and then spoke.
