Getting a birthday present...

Journal started Nov 17, 2005

Today is my mother's birthday, and she's done so much for me these days she's practically my owner. So I don't have a job, and don't get out to the store much, and I still don't have her a present. Good news is I have approximately 6 hours to get one. But... really I don't think I'll get her something material like jewelry or shawls, or even books. Most people, including her, keep well ahead of themselves in buying the newest stuff. Instead I think I'll go to the EDD and see about filling out a job application or two, stop on my way back to pick up a cake mix, then come home and pull up Craig's list and see about sending off more email requests for a job. Then I'll make the cake using a cream cheese based icing (since the corn syrup based icing you buy from the store makes both me and my mother vaguely nauseous). I'll consolidate what applications I could photocopy at the EDD, and then print out the emails I sent on Craig's list, put them in a box and wrap it. Because really, I think the best present I could possibly give her is for me to find a job. Since I habitually apply for a job every other week or so (no, I don't know why so rarely) then spending today at a higher rate might just do the trick.

I don't like our EDD; they never have any jobs, or advice. You go there and they point you to their computers, which can only go to job related websites, not including Craig's list. (People were naughtily consulting the personal's, oh noes!) They have assistance for people who don't speak English, and listings for established professionals, but really nothing much else to do. But eh, at least they're better than the temp agencies in Tracy; Express Personell strings you along like slightly used anal beads.
