The stone in my hand went warm and I knew that she needed a diaper change. With a skill that I had never possessed before, I lay the baby upon the changing table and removed her wet diaper. “I am glad you are only wet.” I told her, for it was now obvious that she was a she. I was able to quickly remove the wet diaper, dry, clean, powder, and diaper her. She stopped crying as I held her against me chest. I knew she was hungry, a point driven home as she tried to latch onto my flat, male chest. “Sorry honey, but that is empty. I am not built that way to feed you.” I said. Almost as if she knew what I was saying, she started to cry again. “I wish…” What have I done? | |
