The lawn had bare spots, and weeds were everywhere. "Mom doesn't believe in weed killers," Karyn explained. "Or artificial fertilizer." I shrugged. "She ever hear of manure?" "Too messy," Karyn said in a sarcastic voice. "She expects me to fix all this without any of the supplies I need. "Maybe you shouldn't wish things right. She'll expect that all the time." I jerked a thistle from the flower bed. "On the other hand; a little weeding couldn't hurt." Karyn held out the rock. "I wish my mother understood what it takes to properly maintain a lawn and garden." Nothing happened; but the wish hadn't been directed at anything or anyone near us. "Hopefully that'll cure your lack of supplies," I said. I took the rock; still holding the thistle in my other hand. "I wish all the weeds in this yard would disappear." Suddenly ... Jon shoulda dropped the thistle. | |
