This is the "catch all" category for stand alone SF stories that don't have links to other stories.  Or, more accurately, don't have other stories using the same background.  Be warned that stories can, and will, move out of this category into others when other stories are written within the same background.

As to what is Fantasy, my personal definition is an event that is assumed, but the characters in the story, to take place involving magic rather than technology.  Alternately, if it's something patently known to not be possible within modern science, or even potentially possible -- i.e. lycanthropes -- then it's Fantasy.  It's not a hard definition, but it's the best I can do.

The Applicant (July 2006) (9k) Inspired by an old Saturday Night Live skit that I thought I could improve on.  Make sure you see whom you're hiring.
Choices (Sept 2006) (13k) What if you were offered your greatest dream?  Would you pay the price?
Christmas in the National Enchanted Forest (Dec 2006) (11k) A cute little universe suggested by a writer on the TSA-talk mailing list in which magic is impringing on our world and zones near the curtain that links our world and faerie are marked off as "National Enchanted Forests".  Just don't stray off the path.  The big question is, how do they recruit guides?
The Dragon, the Rock, and the Wanderer (Mar 2006) (9k) A birthday present for a friend on the TSA-talk mailing list in which he gets his deepest desire.  A little bit of fun silliness.
The Dragon Slayer (April 2006) (8k) Have you ever wondered why the dragon always loses?  Could it be their ego?
A Faerie Tale (1986) (26k) One of my very early stories.  A friend read it and my attempt at Elizabethan English made him laugh.  Oh well.  A physics student takes a vacation in her grandmother's cottage and finds out the truth about the Faerie.
The Great Ruct Implosion (May 2000) (9k) Many years ago one "Jaggers" ran the "Rarely Used Creature Transformation" writing contest. I ended up entering every round (and winning half of them).  When the contest was over, I created this little piece inspired by bits from all the other stories.  The RUCT contest archive can be found HERE.
A Happy Hoppy World (Mar 2006) (5k) A birthday present for a friend on the TSA-talk mailing list.  Or, a little bit of very silly silliness.
How not to be seen (Oct 2006) (8k) A long delayed birthday present for another friend.  What happens if you pick on somebody TOO much?
A Hunting we will go! (May 2006) (5k) And you thought deer were defenseless victims--
Inspire Me (Nov 2004) (31k) A friend ("Equestrian") wrote a story called "You're the Inspiration".  I found it interesting and decided to write my own take on the idea.  A young boy wants to write but is completely unable to, even though he can easily help others over their writing problems.  What's going on?  For more stories by Equestrian, click on the EQUESTRIAN link to the left under AUTHOR PAGES.
It's in the Skin (Oct 2006) (6k) When performing magic, make sure you have EXACTLY the right components.
Keeping Secrets (Aug 1999) (12k) Werecreatures like to keep their existence secret.  So what do they do if somebody else sees them changing?
The Last Dragon (Sep 2003) (7k) After seeing the names of the other stories in the 2nd round of Raven's 1000 Words contest, I had a flash of inspiration and wrote this.  Beware the ending!  To see the other entrants, and the inspiring picture, go HERE.
Melash... (1993) (52k) Another very early story, this time based on a dream.  Who is this woman?  Why must she keep her name secret?  And what happened?
The Myth of Beetlecat (April 2007) (20k) A gift, and a tribute, for the wonderous person who made the arms and head of my costume for me.  You can see her work at Beetlecat Originals.
The Perils of Wereostrichdom (Jul 1999) (17k) Why does Mr. Tim Corrigan, who lives alone, have three orphan children to raise?  And why were each of these three children left on his doorstep?
A Rabbit's Life (Oct 2004) (17k) During a chat on IRC, this popped into my head.  What would happen if I suddenly turned into a rabbit?
Slip Sliding Around (Feb 2007) (5k) If you're going to transform the world, think about the results first.
Somebody's Watching (April 2007) (7k) A gift for another TSA-list member who likes cartoon characters maybe a little TOO much...
A Walk in the National Enchanted Forest (Aug 2006) (7k) A cute little universe suggested by a writer on the TSA-talk mailing list in which magic is impringing on our world and zones near the curtain that links our world and faerie are marked off as "National Enchanted Forests".  Just don't stray off the path.
Wereing on the Moon (Feb 2005) (7k) A person challenged me to write a story of a werecreature on the moon.  This is the result.  Other than the actual were, it is fairly hard SF.  :)
Who gets the Dreamers? (July 2007) (9k) This started as a very silly image that begged for a story.
Whom God Destroys (April 2000) (10k) An ancient divinity awakens when a pair of humans enter his domain.  He can arise again and dominate the world!  Can't he?.
